generation. As a chapter of the national American Civil Liberties
Union, the Rice ACLU's purpose is to promote civil liberties education,
discussion, and activism within the Rice and Houston communities. For

This year, the Rice ACLU has many active programs, though there is room for many more!
Officers:
Jasmine Elliott and Chajin Wu, co-presidents
Hayley Jones, vice-president
HIV/AIDS Project:
Claire Morice, ckm4@rice.edu
The Rice ACLU strives to raise awareness about a multitude of HIV/AIDS related issues. Bigotry toward people living with HIV still exists in the form of violations of privacy, workplace discrimination, denial and child custody, and deprivation of HIV medication to the incarcerated. We hope to reduce stigma by educating the public about HIV transmission and by advocating for those with HIV.
LGBT Project:
Mary Waelder, mary.k.waelder@rice.edu
The Rice ACLU strives to address national LGBT rights issues on the Rice University campus through education, activism, and collaboration with like-minded organizations, including Queers and Allies. We live in an exciting to time in regard to LGBT issues and it is our goal to get Rice students involved.
Reproductive Freedoms Project
Duarte Costeira, duarte.a.costeira@rice.edu
Monica He, monica.he@rice.edu
The ACLU Reproductive Freedoms Project seeks to engage students in a dialogue regarding women's right to choose. We lead a number of initiatives throughout the year, including:
-Advocacy Training
-Promotion of government-funded, comprehensive sexual education in public schools
-Educational speakers: guest activists
We work to build pro-choice networks on campus and in the Greater Houston Community. Contact us to see how you can get involved!
