Amnesty International
The
Rice chapter of Amnesty International seeks to increase awareness on campus regarding human rights abuses and encourages Rice University students to campaign for physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination for peoples everywhere. They meet to respond to Urgent Action Appeals
by sending letters on behalf of persons imprisoned
for their political or religious beliefs. They
also organize special events, such as Banned Books Week and Stop Violence Against Women
Week, as well as movie screenings and fundraisers that focus on various issues. For more information visit the Amnesty
International web page (http://www.amnesty.org)
or visit the US Amnesty web page (http://www.amnesty-usa.org/home.html).
