Friends-In-Deed Scholarship
Caring Friends, Inc. will grant a $2,500 service award scholarship to a Rice continuing student, either undergraduate or graduate at Rice, in the spring of 2012 who has demonstrated by hours of hands-on service a humanitarian commitment to the under served. The recipient must have maintained a 3.0 GPA and have at least one year of education remaining at Rice, either undergraduate or graduate.
The successful applicant will write an essay of no more than 2 double space pages that explains how his/her philosophical and/or faith tradition under girds their humanitarian service.
The Community Involvement Center will select the three strongest applicants and send their essays to the Caring Friends Board for their selection of the winning application.
Caring Friends, Inc. is a faith based organization influenced by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ with a focus on clean water, food, the sick, ex-offender reentry, the needs of the homeless, immigrants, and refugees.
Caring Friends will make the final selection without regard to race, religion, philosophical tradition or gender.

Application Process
Follow these instructions to join as a member of the OWL-Space collaborative site:
- Go to OWL-Space (https://owlspace-ccm.rice.edu).
- Click on "LOG-IN using NetID" and enter your credentials.
- Click on the "Membership" tab in the left margin.
- Click on the "Joinable Sites" link next to "My Current Sites" header.
- Under the "Worksite" list, find the title "Rice Service Council" and click on the link "Join" located just below it.
- Click on the newly formed tab (Rice Service Council), located next to the "My Workspace" tab at the top of the page.
- Once you have been added as a member, you will have access to the "Friends-In-Deed Scholarship Application," which is under the "Tests & Quizzes" tab on the left sidebar. You may save your progress at any time during the application process and return to complete it any time before the deadline.
Deadline for Applications: 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2012
