Funding Future Service

The Community Involvement Center is able to provide financial support to individual students, groups of students, and registered student organizations that engage in service activities in the Houston area, other parts of the United States, and abroad.
- Community Service Grant
Funding for registered student organizations to support service through one-time projects, on-going programs, and annual operating budgets for student service organizations. Maximum funding is $1,000 per academic year for any program or project. All proposals require a letter of support from a non-profit community partner that will benefit from the program or project.
- Hilda and Hershel Rich Family Endowment for Student Community Service
Large-scale funding (over $1,000) for individual students, groups of students, and registered student organizations to support service through one-time projects and on-going programs that impact a demonstrated community need. Proposals for this funding from this endowment must demonstrate a unique or innovative approach to solving a community problem. Funding is not provided as an extension of a prior experience or existing program without a demonstration of significant changes in the program, activities, or outcomes. All proposals require a letter of support from a non-profit community partner that will benefit from the program or project.
- Rice Developing World Student's Scholarship
Need-based funding for individual students to participate in international service activities in developing countries over the winter, spring, or summer break periods.
- Loewenstern Fellowships
Funding for individual students to participate in service activities in Latin America and Asia for four to twelve weeks over the summer break period. Fellowship extends for a full academic year, with commitments to present the experience back to the Rice University community. Opportunities are available to extend this experience by spending a semester studying or working abroad through the Office of International Programs.
- America Reads Tutoring Program
Paid tutoring positions are available to recipients of federal work-study funds as part of their financial aid package. America Reads Tutors work with pre-school and elementary school children on the fundamentals of reading and can choose between three off-campus work sites: an elementary school, an after-school program, and a homeless shelter for women and children.
