Community Service Grant
The Community Service Grant began in 1997 and was designed by a group of student representatives from the student service organizations at Rice. The grant was initially made possible through funding from the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs and now continues through the Office of the Dean of Undergraduates. The purpose of the grant is to help community service organizations (such as Habitat for Humanity, ESL Tutoring, and others) establish and develop their programs and to help individuals initiate community service projects.
$10,000 will be available for the 2009-2010 academic year. Applications are available at the beginning of every fall semester. If funds remain available in the spring semester, a second round of applications is available at the end of January. Allocation decisions are made by a committee of student representatives from student service organizations.
Application Process:
- Follow these instructions to join as a member of the OWL-Space collaborative site:
- Go to OWL-Space (https://owlspace-ccm.rice.edu).
- Click on "LOG-IN using NetID" and enter your credentials.
- Click on the "Membership" tab in the left margin.
- Click on the "Joinable Sites" link next to "My Current Sites" header.
- Under the "Worksite" list, find the title "Comm. Service Grant" and click on the link "Join" located just below it.
- Click on the newly formed tab (Comm. Service Grant), located next to the "My Workspace" tab at the top of the page.
- Once you have been added as a member, you will have access to the application, which is under the "Tests & Quizzes" tab on the left sidebar. You may save your progress at any time during the application process and return to complete it any time before the deadline.
- Complete the application by the appropriate deadline:
- 5:00pm on Monday, September 14, 2009
- 5:00pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2010
